Blazing Saddles (1974)

What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is goin’ on here?

Finally I sat down to view the classic Mel Brooks’ film Blazing Saddles as a long overdue tribute to the recently passed Dom Deluise. Unfortunately after the great title song and the first few scenes I found myself losing interest. Has anyone else had this problem with this film? I had always remembered it as a hilarious film but this time through it merited narry a chuckle.

It’s still great to see the also passed Harvey Korman in what I’ve always thought is one of his better performances. Gene Wilder is good as well and perhaps what makes this casting work is that no one really has enough screen time to steal (or try to steal) the show. The ensemble approach really works well.

So maybe its just me, Blazing Saddles is probably still a great film, perhaps it is the view that was off!
