We’ve learned of the death of songstress and actress Eartha Kitt, who passed away yesterday after a battle with a recurrence of her colon cancer which was originally diagnosed in 2006.

Actor-director Orson Welles once called Kitt “the most exciting woman alive” and, along with Lena Horne, she was one of the first African-American sex symbols.

She was the winner of two Emmys and one Grammy.
